Flutter for iOS and Android: When One Codebase Is the Right Choice

The cost advantages of cross-platform development, its performance limits, and the criteria for platform-specific features.

Flutter for iOS and Android: When One Codebase Is the Right Choice

A single codebase is a real advantage for teams that want the same feature on both platforms at the same time. In frameworks such as Flutter, the interface, business logic and networking layer live in one place, so a bug is fixed once rather than twice.

Some features are tightly bound to the platform. Notification permissions, background location tracking and Bluetooth pairing may require native code through platform channels. The question we ask when deciding is where the app is actually under strain: in screen animations, or in access to device hardware? For the first, the framework is usually sufficient. For the second, you need someone who knows the native layer of both platforms. This decision should be made before the project starts.
